Acura RL A SPEC - Front Side
 car Acura RL A-Spec Review
Acura unveiled an A-SPEC performance package for its RL luxury performance sedan at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. It will go on sale in the spring of 2005 at Acura dealers nationwide.
The all-new Acura RL, which went on sale last month, features a bold new design, a powerful 300-horsepower engine, the SH-AWD all-wheel drive system and an assortment of leading-edge technology including a real time traffic information system. The RL A-SPEC package enhances the already crisp handling and aggressive styling with a track-tuned suspension package that lowers the car by approximately 3/4 inch, 18-inch alloy wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, an underbody kit, and a deck lid spoiler. The RL A-SPEC kit will be priced at approximately $5,500 plus dealer installation and covered under a factory warranty.

So, with no engine modifications present what exactly does the A-Spec package offer? As introduced with the previous-generation 3.2 TL Type-S sedan, vehicles equipped with the A-Spec offer a visual and dynamic edge over standard models. On top of what has been reported to be the superb balance, impeccable cornering finesse and downright nimble road manners of the stock RL, the A-Spec adds a track-tuned suspension, incorporating springs with higher rate capacities and stiffer dampers. The upgraded suspension also adds a bit of visual appeal, as they drop the ride height of the RL by nearly an inch. Eighteen-inch light alloy wheels wrapped in 245/45 YR 18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires should give the RL A-Spec the upper hand over the standard model when it comes to tackling twisty roads.

Inside is where the Acura RL really shines. Virtually every surface is covered in supple leather, highly polished maple wood trim, satin-finished aluminum or soft-touch composites. The twin-pod gauge pack is backlit with soft blue LEDs for a futuristic effect, and the tilt and telescoping wheel is loaded with controls for everything from the stereo to the nav system.
The high-tech theme continues on the center stack, where the interface for the AcuraLink system is a large aluminum knob. It looks similar to BMW’s much maligned iDrive, but it’s very easy to use and understand, we stumbled through the basic navigation and stereo controls in a few minutes.

Speaking of the stereo, a cooperative effort between Acura and Bose has led to one of the most advanced and pitch-perfect factory stereo systems we’ve ever heard, complete with true surround-sound technology and DVD-audio compatibility.
