General Motors is going for the Audi RS6 Avant next year with the launch of the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon. The Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon will be equipped with the same 6.2 liter supercharged V8 engine that powers the CTS-V with an output of 564 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The CTS-V is already one of the fastest saloons on the market. With this engine, the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon has all the ingredients for becoming the fastest station wagon in production.
The Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is expected to have its market launch in March next year picking a fight with the Audi RS6 Avant and the BMW M5 Touring.
The Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is not the only new version of the CTS in GM’s plans. A coupe model of the CTS-V is also expected.
e still don’t understand the point of high-performance station-wagons but apparently there is a well sought out market for them. A bunch of new Caddys are on the way including the recently revealed 2010 CadillacSport Wagon, 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe and the 2010 Cadillac SRX. The latter two will debut in the second-half of 2009 so for right now GM is all about the Cadillac Sport Wagon.
Shown at Pebble Beach this past weekend, the 2010 Cadillac Sport Wagon will come to the U.S. next year with two different powertrain choices. The base model will be powered by a 3.6 liter VVT producing 263-hp while the range-topper will get the 3.6 liter V6 direct-injection producing 304-hp. Europeans will get a 2.0 liter turbodiesel V6 producing 250-hp as well.
“You know what’s really going to get you guys is the CTS-V wagon”, said Lutz. The journalist responded “Oh, has the wagon been confirmed?” “Yes,” he replied, “You’ll be able to get the CTS-V anyway you want.” Great news if you are in favor of sporty wagon build by a US manufacturer.
The CTS-V Sport Wagon accompanies the CTS-V Sedan and the upcoming CTS-V Coupe which will drive and appear next year. Lutz didn’t provide any time frame for this arrival, but we think that GM made a nice decision to put this model into production and expand the line-up. Still Europe is the only region where power stations like the M5 Touring and RS6 Avant are surrounded by a large amount of enthusiasts.

We still have to wait and see what the vehicle holds when it hits the roads and can be compared to the existing group of sporty wagons.
